My philosophy is that children need a chance to be just what they are – children. I believe that a child’s job is to play. Children learn valuable information about their world through play and everyday life experiences. We strive to provide an atmosphere filled with developmentally appropriate toys and equipment that encourage imagination and exploration.
As an In-home provider, my goal is to provide a safe and educational environment for children so it will stimulate their growth, physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills.
Sometimes we as parents want some ditto sheets or pictures and we need to understand that children learn by using their senses and playing in dirt, with rocks, picking flowers, playing house, doctor, cab driver, space shuttle etc. Their imagination is endless. Just because we drill the ABC’s and 123’s in a child doesn’t mean that the child will recognize them. They will learn them when it is age appropriate. That is why I believe in my theory of children learning by play.
I have a structured environment and we do various types of activities during that time. We have a morning meeting which consists of calendar, weather, pledge, letter recognition/sounds, shape and number of the week. I also let the children talk about what they done the night before or over the weekend. It is important to let them have some talk time, so they may be able to focus on the lesson at hand. I do have lesson plans that I will be using to teach the children. Sometimes it will be posted on the wall if I get the whole week done in advanced. If not, I will have it in my workbook/planner or we may do what is child directed. All that means is if a child has something that they want to learn about, and then we explore that option.
We do offer a preschool curriculum program for the children. We do age appropriate activities for the children. There may be a movie to go with the theme we are working on. (Fire safety- video: Elmo visits the firehouse)
Meals Served:
We provide nutritionist meals based on the USDA Food Guidelines. We serve meals four times a day. (Breakfast, AM Snack, Lunch, PM Snack) Dinner is served if you are here for extended care/parent’s night out etc. Everything we serve, the children will be asked to taste. If your child has an allergy to certain foods, then a note from his/her physician will be needed in order for the child not to be served the foods in which they are allergic. If you come after the schedule meal times, please make sure you feed your child. Please don’t bring your child to daycare with McDonald’s or any other fast food because the other children will not understand why they are not eating the same thing.
All food is cook fresh and there will not be extra food waiting until you arrive. I have a set food schedule and you will need to feed your child if you come after those times noted. Also please remember that no food is allowed in care. If your child is eating food on the way to daycare in the car, then the food must remain in your car or thrown away in the outside trash can once you arrive. I can not allow outside food into my home unless it is bought by me or in a non-opened/store sealed container. These are rules for the food program.
The only person allowed to bring food is parents of children on formula/infant food and children that are on a gluten free diet. If it is a birthday, then previous arrangement with me will need to be made. No homemade food is allowed. It has to be store bought for the safety of the children in my care.
