My name is Shayla and I am the owner of A Step Ahead Preschool. I serve children 2 - 6 years old in my home. My curriculum is a child centered curriculum which means I provide teacher directed activities but I also allow the children to learn off things they will explore. I have developed this curriculum based on state standards and past experiences with other curriculums. Included in my curriculum is weekly themes, weekly cooking projects, and monthly fieldtrips. Along with this curriculum comes a lot of play exploration. I am a firm believer in play as a form of learning so I have incorporated free play learning for children during our daily schedule. During this time, I assist children with learning while they play.
We will have many other activities included in our day including having outside professionals come in to teach karate, dance etc. We are also planning things like Parent Date Nights and other fun activities.
My background includes a B.A. in Child Development and M.A. in Early Childhood Education. Previously, I was a center director of a KinderCare in California, and before that I had teaching experience with gifted elementary children. These positions offered me the eye opening experience to see what worked for children and what did not. In addition, I am also CPR & FirstAid certified.
My fees are very affordable and include breakfast, 2 snacks and lunch. I am open Monday - Friday 7:00a.m. - 6:45p.m. I am located off Camp Creek Parkway behind the Camp Creek Marketplace in the new Pulte Home community.
