I don’t have a fancy house or fancy furniture. There are crayon markings on my walls and cheerio dust on my shelves. But my bathroom is cleaned twice a day and each morning before my daycare children arrive the carpets are vacuumed and the floors, counter tops and toys are disinfected.
My daycare children don’t play in just one room,
They get the whole house. They nap in the bedroom and eat at the table in beds and chairs that are theirs, just like home.
My toys are not shiny and new, they are velveteen rabbits, my toys have been well loved. But I have lots and lots and lots and lots of them. I have a lego table and a coloring table and a water table and a sandbox. I have a dollhouse and a playhouse and a wooden train set that fills up the living room floor and play-doh and puzzles and buckets and buckets and baskets and baskets of more.
I have hundreds of storybooks and we read books several times a day. I have finger paints and water paints and stickers and arts and crafts and pre-school activities. We have puppet shows and we sing and learn sign language and make forts out of big sheets and the dinning room table.
My yard in not manicured. Most of the front has been paved so there is room for Mom and Dad to park. In the back we have berries to pick and a garden to grow and bugs to collect and birds to feed and the fence and the house are lined with milk crate after milk crate full of outside toys and the grass in warn thin from use.
