A little About Myself & Family :
My name is Jennifer Castellanos. The children call me Miss Jennifer :) .
By request I opened up the doors to my in home childcare in December 2002. I have been in operation ever since. My family consists of myself, my Dear Husband Fernando & our two vivacious boys Giovanni & Isaac. Currently our children are home schooled utilizing a virtual charter school. My mom Linda also resides with us and helps in the childcare as needed. All the kids refer to her as Nana usually, a term of endearment she wears proudly :) I have worked with children since I was a young girl, beginning as a early tween babysitting for the neighbors. During High School I was a Brownie Troop leader, took ECE units & volunteered at a local pre-school. In college I studied early childhood development & am in the process of requesting my ECE.I was also a nanny , and a volunteer in Special Buddies for children in Foster Care. I have worked or the state of Ca Social Services Dept. for the developmentally delayed. Our family is currently in the process of being licensed for foster care, so you may see some additions to our family unit in the upcoming months.
Down To Business:
All adults members in our home are CPR & First aid certified, have fingerprint clearance cards & have had TB Tests. We have had a state inspection of our home & meet all requirements. We have no pets or large bodies of water on our property. I am currently being licensed in the state of Arizona for in home childcare.
All families are required to sign a service agreement & a medical release form prior to your child's first day of attendance.
Invoices & Statements are sent monthly to each family . I have an EIN number and all payments are tax deductible.
How we teach:
At Sonshine Christian Childcare we believe children learn best though play & hands on learning.
Currently Sonshine Christina Childcare utilizes a Theme Based curriculum called Early Start , Fun Learning. Each month all activities for learning are based on the particular them. Example-- If the unit is based on animals we will make frog puppets for the letter F. My favorite feature of this curriculum is that it is age specific. 2-3 year olds work on cutting, gluing& pre-writing skills. 4-5 year olds learn to write letters, cut more intricate patterns, work on sequencing etc. Parents receive a monthly newsletter with an outline of our themes & a snapshot of the activities your child will be participating in that month.
We also have a tremendous amount of toys for the children to enjoy: music instruments, books, and more. In our yard we have a swing set, play house, ride on toys & a large grassy area for running !!!
