My name is Cindie Figgatt. I am mother to two wonderful boys and wife to a wonderful husband. I have been a licensed family childcare provider since 2000. The reason that I made a career choice to provide child care in my home is because I enjoy working with children and I had a desire to be home with my own children. It is very important to me that parent's feel comfortable leaving their children with me. That is why I strive to provide excellent care for the children in my program. It is also very important to me that I maintain consistent communication with parents so that we can work as a team throughout their child's developmental stages.
We do preschool from September through mid to late June. I am currently using preschool curriculum from Funshine Express. I have used them for a few years now and really like them. You can check them out on their website at: www.FunshineExpress.com. As you can see on the example pictures of our bulletin boards below, each day we do the calendar, weather, colors, shapes, numbers, letters (upper and lower case) including their sounds and the sign language symbol for the corresponding letter. When we have completed our bulletin board activities, we then move on to a project which can range from a structured craft, painting, coloring, activity sheets, or free choice. I always take a fun and casual approach with our "school" activities and never force a child to participate. Even though all children learn at different rates, it is my goal that each child in my program know the majority of their alphabet (including their sounds) and how to write their name by the time they are ready to enter kindergarten.
