Intro letter for parents

Dear Parents,

The following information concerns our family day care home, a companion to the formal contract. It outlines policies and provides some basic facts to assist you in making your decision about enrollment for your child.

Hello. Our names are S. Malcome(daughter) and J. Malcome(mother) Malcome, and we are a mother and daughter child care provider team. We are licensed by the state of Illinois. Our assistants are also processed through the state of Illinois to be on our license.

We are very happy to provide quality day care services. We work as a team to provide a safe and loving environment for our entire child care program.

Program. We provide childcare services between the hours of 6:00am to 11:00pm Mon.-Fri., to give parents time to drive to and from work. Our weekend schedule is by appointment only. Our small, family-styled grouping provides nurturing experiences for all children. Our daily schedule goes a little something like this: breakfast, table learning activities, snacks, free play, lunch, nap, after school homework, in/outdoor play (weather permitting) or table learning activities, supper, quiet activities or movie time, clean up, and leaving for the day. These things equal to life learning developing experiences.

Instead of detailed lesson plans, I prefer to use our energy to interact with the children and provide activities that will be of interest. Our day is flexible. All materials the children use are intended to help them learn through hands-on experiences, so they can test their own ideas, and develop their creativity at their own pace. We have lots of books, blocks, crayons, puzzles, riding toys, stacking toys, dress-ups, games, musical instruments, tapes, and construction toys.

Food and nutrition. A healthy breakfast , snacks, lunch, and supper are provided for the children during their stay. Parents are responsible for special diets and formulas. I am part of the federal food program and must meet their nutritional guidelines.

Schedule. My home child care program operates year round with these exceptions: We are closed on all Federal Holidays and: New Years Eve and Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, the Day Before, the Day of, the Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I take a 2 week vacation each summer and you will be given at least one month’s notice of the dates. Otherwise, payments are expected whenever we are open, in order to maintain your child’s enrollment. Please give me a hand written notice, at least (8) weeks in advance, when you plan to withdraw your child from the program.

Substitutes. We will be the everyday caregivers for your child. If a substitute is needed, you will be notified in advance so your child(ren) and you can get to know the person.

Contracts. I have a written contract with parents outlining some of the information here more formally. Children are enrolled for a 2-week trial period.

I hope this sheet will help you in the hard task of selecting quality child care. If you should have questions or would like to talk more, please call me
S. Malcome at 773-994-0487.
